BOW Briquettes

Wood fuel is predominantly used for cooking in Uganda with over 80% of the population relying on charcoal and firewood for their daily cooking needs as the cheapest fuel source. The effects are massive deforestation and now we are faced with Energy Poverty.Respiratory illnesses caused by smoke burning firewood and other solid fuels indoors.BOW briquettes are safe  briquettes and cooking sticks which are more safe, accessible and affordable lined with ceramic to create the insulation that retains heat for a long time

Biomass

This involves the use of organic waste to replace unsustainable charcoal and firewood.600tonnes of waste is dumped at the landfill every day. Of this 80% is organic waste. We are in partnership with the Waste-pickers at Kiteezi landfill for the primary waste  sourcing and processing . this includes, sorting, drying, partial carbonization. One big limitation to the scale of briquettes is the  lack of heavy duty machines fast dry and carbonize the waste into char material that is used for briquettes. You need three times (biomass) to produce a specific volume of briquettes. To be able to do briquette production at scale, proper planning for heavy duty machinery should be done.BOW  is currently working in partnership with Asches and MIT to develop specialized drums that can carbonize more efficiently.
